Destination: Jamaica!

Over the weekend, we signed the paperwork so I can now announce that Cheryl and I have booked our honeymoon and will be spending six nights at the Sandals Grande Ocho Rios resort in Jamaica! It'll be my first trip outside of the United States (not counting Windsor, Canada of course) and I'm really looking forward to relaxing on the beach and drinking some Red Stripe and Appleton Rum.

We decided to go through Central Travel since the price was virtually identical to what Sandals offers online and they offer an option to have a Honeymoon Registry where guests can contribute towards the cost of the trip as a substitute for a gift. Personally, I'm hoping at least a few people take this option as I'm not looking forward to paying all of the balance myself. =)

Outer Banks Vacation Photos

OBX-20090708-137-Retouch, originally uploaded by nateut.
Wow, time sure does fly... it's been almost two weeks since we returned from our vacation in the Outer Banks and I'm just now getting around to posting something on the blog. As you can imagine, the trip was amazing and I was very sad to see the week go by so quickly. I really hope that we try and make it a tradition every couple years as it was a lot of fun having some friends around. Most of the time was spent either relaxing on the beach or by the pool at the house, but Cheryl and I took a couple trips out to see the sights. The photo above of the Bodie Island lighthouse is one of my favorites from the trip. You can see more of them in my flickr photostream.

Hops status report and parting thoughts...

Hopgrowth_070109, originally uploaded by nateut.

Dad asked to see how the hops were growing, so I went and took this photo before it started to rain. As you can see, this Cascade hop bine is about six feet tall. There are quite a few shorter ones already growing up the twine as well. The Mt. Hood hops aren't doing as well; however, one bine is about two inches from the top of its support cage.

This will likely be my last post before we leave tomorrow evening to start our journey to North Carolina. We'll be staying at my parent's house tomorrow night so we can get up Friday and get on the road to Richmond. I'm pushing to have dinner at the Capital Ale House as it is only 500ft. from the hotel (and has 77 different beers on tap!).

I'm not sure if I'll be able to post any updates here, but keep an eye on my flickr photostream as I'll try and upload some pictures from my iPhone throughout the week!

Impulsive Car Purchase 2009

Untitled, originally uploaded by nateut.
As some of you may already know, I've been going back and forth trying to decide if I wanted to trade my 2006 Honda Civic in on a CRV. After thinking about it again over the weekend, I finally went to my favorite local dealer, Jim White Honda in Maumee, to see what they had in-stock and how much they'd give me for my trade. Over my lunch break, I was able to find the one I wanted and negotiate the terms of the deal so I could come back after work to sign the paperwork and drive it off the lot that night. As you can see from the picture above, I'm now the proud owner of a new 2009 Honda CRV EX 4WD (urban titanium metallic exterior, black interior)!
It'll get a lot of miles over the next week as Cheryl and I will be driving it to the Outer Banks; we'll be leaving my parent's house in Bellefontaine early Friday morning, staying the night in Richmond, and hopefully arriving at our rental house before traffic gets too crazy. I won't have a laptop with me, but I'll try to upload some pictures and post an update or two throughout the week.

Less than a month until vacation!

The countdown has begun... just thirty more days until we leave for a week of relaxing in the water with a Yuengling in one hand and a ping pong ball in the other (to play beer pong on the raft of course!). Cheryl and I are heading down to to the Outer Banks and staying in the beach house pictured above (more info here) with the Large, Taylor, and Zimmerly families. We'll be leaving Ohio on the 3rd of July and driving most of the way, staying overnight in Richmond. This will hopefully allow us to arrive before the rest of the vacation traffic so we can get to the house and be ready (and awake) to celebrate the 4th. Since I no longer have a working Macbook Pro, I'll be computerless for the entire trip... something that I'm actually looking forward to (although I do hope Apple surprises everyone and releases the next iPhone model before July 3rd)!

This weekend, we're going camping with my parent's again, this time at Salt Fork State Park in east-central Ohio... camping is so much nicer when you have a camper (with air conditioning!) to sleep in. The nearby town of Coshocton is hosting the 28th Annual Frontier Power Hot Air Ballon Festival this weekend, and I thought it would a good opportunity to take some interesting pictures. Keep an eye for them after I return!
